Message from the 2020 Captain

< Back to news

Hi, Fellow members, Welcome to the first of my weekly bulletins.

Firstly, I’m honoured and privileged to be Captain of Grange Castle Golf Club for 2020.
Congrats to Declan McDonald on his election as President of the club.
Thanks to both Captain Fiachra and President Paul for the unstinting service to the club during the last 12 months.
We held our AGM in the Red Cow Hotel on Wed. 26th Feb. I’d like to thank those members who attended (54). A bit disappointing, given that we have a membership in excess of 700.

We will be hosting a qualifying round of the AIG Jimmy Bruen Stroke Play Competition on 17th May, with the semi-finals and final playing on 24th May. Support for this event from members, in the form of volunteers for stewarding, car park management and on-course support for our team would be gratefully appreciated. More on this in late April/early May.

We are entered into a number of GUI Inter-club competitions; Barton Cup, Mixed Foursomes, Metro, All Ireland Four Ball, Fred Daly Trophy, Fred Perry Trophy, Senior Cup, Barton Shield, Junior Cup and Pierce Purcell.
You may get a call from one of the managers of the above teams in the near future.

As we all won’t get the call-up for the inter-club teams, and to make the year a bit more interesting, we are introducing an Eclectic competition, to include both 7-day and 5-day members. This competition will run over a period of 2 months and encompass all qualifying competitions during that period. Full details will  be issued shortly.

The Club are investing in two perpetual trophies, to be presented to the winners of the Captain’s Prize and President’s Prize. We will also have a Captain’s Prize for our 5-day members to compete for.

Finally, can I ask all members to follow the Ready Golf guidelines that are designed to maintain the pace of play, also to repair divots on the fairways and pitch marks on the greens.

Remember we are all responsible for the upkeep of the course.
